Whitecomb Run

John's son, Harry worked on the Whitecomb block for the Williamson and Aitcheson families as a teenager and fell in love with the property.

He purchased Whitecomb run from the Gibson family in 1990 and at the time of purchase the property was stocked with Perendale and Half-Bred ewes. These ewes were quickly bred out of the system over a period of 10 years, being replaced with commercial ewes from the Fernvale block.

The Half-bred and Perendale ewes were only giving a lambing percentage of 75% at best. The introduction of the Fernvale-bred ewes rapidly drove up the lambing percentage. We are now consistently achieving 120% plus lambing on over-sown native tussock country in what can be a very unforgiving spring-storm environment.

The Whitecomb run block is our main breeding platform running 7000 commercial Romney ewes and 850 Angus based breeding cows. The total area is 4408ha. It has an average rainfall between 850-950mls per annum and an altitude range of 280-1402m above sea level.
