Steve's Block, Ettrick
This block was leased from the Norman family in July 2016 and one of the first tasks once this block was taken over was to extend the farm lanes. We now have a lane through the middle of the property from the Fernvale woolshed right down to the Ettrick main road. This gives easy access for all the stock and staff as they move between the various units.Steve's Block is approximately 2000ha and is utilised as a terminal operation for all of our B stock. This is classified as early country which is well suited to lambing and calving earlier to what the climate can normally sustain in Moa Flat.
In Spring 2017, 6800 cast for age and cull ewes were set-stocked on this block. 137% lambing was achieved and we anticipate better than 50% of the progeny being finished to 19kg pre-christmas.
The other very attractive thing with this block is that it also isolates our freezer ewes into one area. This means that 80% of this stock will be sold off the property pre-christmas.
The disadvantage to this country is that it has a tendency to dry out from January onwards
