LLOYD BRENSSELL - Managing Director/Owner

Lloyd is Managing Director and Owner of Fernvale Genetics with his wife, Angela.

He is very focused on the studs and has implemented the Genetic programme as it is today. He has been responsible from taking a traditional romney stud to a no-nonsense, reliable form of genetics that is required on the farms of today. The stud is operated and farmed alongside the commercial flock with the philosophy that if you don't perform, then you are out.

Technology has been utilised on the operation to deliver genetic gains for our clients. The stud is recorded using Macrostud and DNA technology has been implemented to capture pedigree information. This means that stud mating is a combination of Lloyd’s eye appraisal and computer generated data.

Additional technology that enhances the farming practices on the properties is also used. This has lead to Fernvale becoming one of the development properties for Farm IQ and means all the staff carry smartphones that link with the Farm IQ program. The tractors are setup with a tablet and GPS systems that are also linked to Farm IQ. The financial side of the business is recorded and monitored using Cash Manager.

With a property of this size, there are always things needing fixed. From shepherds running their side by sides into troughs while shifting stock, to machinery breakdowns, Lloyd has become a self-taught fix it man. Due to the isolation and requiremment for machinering to be running smoothly, Lloyd has established an extensive workshop on the property and the tractor driver also has a service vehicle with associated tools handy.

Lloyd does not leave the farm much but when he does, his interests include spending time with his family (especially boating in the summer), fishing and duck shooting.
