Gem Lake
The Gem Lake block went through a tenure review in 2013 when owned by Steve Norman. The Department of Conservation freeholded 2100ha to the Norman family and retired the remaining 4000ha back to the Crown. This was purchased from Steve Norman in 2014 and is currently used as the high-country support block for the Whitecomb run operation.
The two properties neighbour each other, are located in the headwaters of the Pomahaka river system and are run together as the one unit. Stock work is done predominantly on foot and via horseback. As technology is changing, helicopters are being utilised for assistance with mustering, snow raking, inspecting stock and fencing.
